We’ll be holding the first portion of the Venture Capital Investment Competition on campus later today. This semester, we have 13 motivated grad students working in three separate teams. Three entrepreneurs will be presenting on their respective ventures followed by Q&A. Each team will ultimately select one of the three to invest in, and then negotiate terms in front of a six judge panel. Five of the 13 students will be selected to represent BC in the Regional competition against other business schools in early 2015. Last year’s team won the Regionals and placed 6th worldwide at the Finals down at UNC. Details will be provided throughout the day.

Here’s a reflection from one member of last year’s team:

We began by trying to make a personal connection with the entrepreneur, explaining that we had all signed up and had been using his service. We then tried to thoughtfully question the entrepreneur’s assumptions, not taking everything at face value. Finally, we also only included language in the Term Sheet that we were comfortable with.
