Global Management Experience Day #7: Hong Kong day of Finance

Today was finance day in Hong Kong. Given its position as Asia’s financial hub, this was a great way to wrap up our final day of company visits. Both visits featured a series of speakers, which was terrific for the students, in terms of providing them a wealth of collective, yet individual, experiences. We began the day with a visit to Boston’s own State Street Corporation, seeing representatives from Hong Kong’s Global Services and Global Markets divisions. After eating lunch in International Finance Centre 2, we regrouped and walked over to Tor Investment, a start-up hedge fund. We came back to the hotel, gave everyone an hour off and then headed to the GME inaugural Hong Kong Alumni Event. Thanks to our BU alums for a great evening, where over 20 alumni showed up, not to mention current BU students from other programs concurrently in Asia!

Both company visits were meaningful for me on a personal note: our lead presenter at State Street was a former student on this very trip five years prior. Our hedge fund presenter was our former key Hong Kong alumnus in organizing these events for Boston College.

We’ve been *very* fortunate these past 7 days, visiting 12 different companies. For day 8, everyone has some free time to do any last minute shopping, sightseeing– Hong Kong style. We’re headed to the airport tomorrow afternoon with a direct flight home!
