Top-4 finish by BU MBA Team: ROMBA Case Challenge
Congrats to Questrom School of Business BU MBAs Daniel Ciuffi, Diego Nunes, Shannon Chambers and Sri Saikumar Sankar on a top-4 finish in the ROMBA case challenge. A portion of their submission is above, which deals with a new (hypothetical) Amazon product.
Here’s what they did to prepare:
- The 2016 Amazon ROMBA Case Challenge was the third year of the competition and put students to test using Amazon’s signature idea generation style by working backwards through the PR/FAQ methodology to build a new business. The case question got students to get their creative juices flowing by coming up with a big new product or service that Amazon should launch for its existing or new customers. Our team came up with the idea called ‘SmartPrice’, designed to be a service that integrates with Amazon’s marketplace that uses analytics to help sellers determine, understand and capitalize on the demand for their product by maximizing sales through an optimal pricing strategy. This was inspired by our recent introduction to economic theory and pricing strategies through our courses right here at Questrom!
- Our deliverables included a one-page Press Release, one-page FAQ, 2 page appendix for the first round and an additional page for the final round. We were selected as the top 4 finalists and the final round consisted of a Q&A session with the judges of the competition, all experienced Amazonians themselves. While we were not placed first, we learned a lot through the experience and had the opportunity to actually test the idea through many Amazonians. We were also invited to an exclusive happy-hour to network and chat with the Amazon reps and to learn more about their business and opportunities therein.
