GME Day #2 in Shanghai
Terrific day with 3 great visits and lots of insightful questions from the students. We began the morning at a successful healthcare company, studying how they are expanding locally in Shanghai as well as across China’s eastern provinces. The team grabbed lunch on-the-run from a local convenience store, so we could drive across the bridge to make it in time to the factory of a worldwide, privately held furniture corporation. We were so impressed to see their operational transparency and zest for continuous manufacturing improvement. GME ended the day with a visit to a Chinese peer-to-peer lender. Fascinating presentation which spoke to living in China as an expat, and also covered company operations. Thanks to all of today’s executives.
Every year we try innovate and this year’s focus— at the suggestion of my colead— is expanding debriefings with the students. We had 2 great sessions on the bus. Students are getting a chance to directly compare company strategies, operations, profitability, business ethics, cultural perceptions and everything in between.
We also made BU Today, along with a picture. Scroll down to the headline “Back by Popular Demand,” and read under the picture.
