Language of Business (Episode #9): For-Profit vs. Non-Profit Management

Founding and running non-profits are labors of love, but funding almost feels like a perpetual hamster on a wheel, not to mention requires a different set of skills as it relates to for-profit companies. Check out our latest Language of Business (TM/R) episode! Asjah Monroe has been phenomenally successful running Small House, which offers a new approach to support transition age youth in the Greater Boston area. Charley Cummings is the CEO of Walden Mutual Bank, which enables anyone to make positive and lasting change to the local food ecosystem, and discusses the idiosyncrasies of for-profit vs. non-profit stakeholder metrics. Denis Pilotte is an Area Program Manager with the Massachusetts’ Department of Children and Family Services and believes passion makes a difference when it comes to succeeding in public service roles. Finally, Chuck Holland has moved seamlessly between tech companies and social enterprise organizations and comments on the mindset involved when moving across cultures. Run time is 23 minutes and thanks to Randy Barth for video, Don Kelley for his audio production work, Susan James Leyva, Patrick Abouchalache, Jodi Luber, and the Questrom School of Business, Boston University for its support. Of course, an equally huge thanks to our four guests!
